Our goal at The Maui Butterfly Farm is to teach the importance of butterfly conservation and their essential role as pollinators for our environment. We aim to teach our guests the best way that they can help both the endangered Monarch as well as the other types of butterflies specific to their own area.
For this reason we DO NOT offer butterfly releases.
For those that ARE interested in butterfly releases we would recommend that butterflies are only released in an area where there is BOTH a FOOD SOURCE for the future caterpillars (in the case of Monarchs this would be milkweed) as well as a NECTAR SOURCE (certain preferred flowers) in order to increase the butterflies’ chance of survival and to help assist with the butterfly population in the area.
Without both of these essential elements, the butterflies will be unable to continue their lifecycle and produce future generations.
